KMIT India

Workforce Development

We reach out to communities that are most susceptible and vulnerable to trafficking and bonded labor. Once an assessment is concluded, we invite women to attend the workshops and training sessions. We train and develop women to access income generating opportunities and increase financial stability. We provide life skills training, sector-specific technical training, job placement, or support opening a small business. We provide mentorship and motivation to encourage and support the women in their journey.

The women we serve are at the heart of the program. They are given choices to shape the future they see for themselves. Upon joining, the life skills program develops their soft skills, they then choose between employment and livelihood activities. The women are engaged for a period of up to 2 years during which time they receive continuous counseling and support to achieve their personal and financial goals.

KMIT accomplishes its goals when a woman is empowered to make informed decisions and contribute financially to take care of herself and her family. This is demonstrated by increased income, opening bank accounts to increase savings, and developing plans for a sustainable financial future.

Adolescent Girls
Empowerment Program

We provide young girls with a safe place to socialize and learn skills that heighten their existing schooling— helping them pursue a future where they are self aware and able to make informed decisions. The success of the program is measured by the girls developing an increased awareness about rights, health, and financial planning. The girls continue with education or vocational training and make informed decisions and plan for their future.

The Adolescent Girls program is targeted for 16-18 year olds that may or may not be enrolled in formal education. It is a 3 Phase program executed over 12-months in 6 modules. It includes Life Skills as specified in the UN Life Skills Framework along with creating awareness about Child Rights and Responsibilities; Adolescent Health; and Employability and Entrepreneurship which focus on vocational training, computer literacy, financial literacy, and workshops around diverse career opportunities that could be available to the girls post completing their schooling.

Swabhimaan Project

Shahi Exports Pvt. Ltd. and Know Me India Trust entered into a partnership in 2022 to fight against human trafficking, modern slavery, and poverty by providing skills training to women from vulnerable social and economic communities and to provide them with job opportunities at Shahi Exports’ garment factories. The Partnerships empower women to be economically independent and lead a life of freedom and dignity.

Swabhimaan is a physical training center and program developed and created in collaboration with Shahi Exports. KMIT offers women Life Skills and workforce readiness programs before they enter the Sewing Machine Operator training program. Upon completion of the training, the women are offered jobs at a Shahi factory
KMIT ensures that the women secure employment, understand workplace rights, and ensures that the Shahi factory is a safe place for the women and meets the KMIT standards as an employer.
